- | LAST MINUTE NOTES!!! |
- ------------------------
- (and tips)
-
- THESE ARE TO BE STUDIED AND REMEMBERED *AFTER* YOU HAVE
- COMPLETED THE INSTALLATION STEPS THAT FOLLOW THIS SECTION.
-
- 1. READ EVERYTHING before you give up or ask for help. All
- information is in the manuals or update/install info. It
- takes a little work to make your BBS just like you want it,
- so make some time that you can concentrate on learning how to
- make Mansion work for you. Time spent working and planning your
- BBS can make things run smooth and trouble free in the future.
-
- 2. If running a color Mac, you can speed text display in the
- local mode greatly by running in Black and White.
-
- 3. If running under System 6 Finder (not multifinder), uncheck
- the "SubLauch" menu item in the Mansion Editor after you have completed
- the following installation steps.
-
- 4. Sysops, when in the Local mode (logging on from the BBS computer),
- use the following commands to control text display:
- s = pause text display
- q = resume text display
- c = cancel text display
-
- 5. When you log on in the local mode, you can either use the
- Fast Logon or the Local Logon from the menus. If you use the
- Local Logon command, your user number is 1 and your password is:
- sysop
-
- 6. If you get an error #57 or 53 after installing, you have not
- edited a path correctly. Review all path information in the next
- section.

- Mansion Nine! BBS Installation
-
- Follow these instructions EXACTLY or things will not work properly!
-
- Mansion is a full BBS package, (not 'canned' software like some others) and is
- full function, meaning that it is completely customizable right down to a built
- in scripting language!
-
- These instructions will walk you through a quick install of a VERY basic
- Mansion BBS setup.
-
- Mansion BBS is Commercial Software and Requires a REG file to run without
- cripples. To become a Registered Mansion User fill out and mail the Mansion
- Nine Registration Form found in the Mansion Docs folder.
-
- This version of Mansion will allow full installation and complete
- functionality, except for the number of users. This version is limited to TWO
- users only!
-
- Installation Instructions:
-
- Lets get started...
-
- 1) Unstuff all three (3) Mansion installation archives. You must use StuffIt
- Lite, StuffIt Deluxe, or StuffIt Expander to accomplish this task.
-
- 2) You now have several items to work with. The main item is 'Mansion BBS ƒ'.
-
- 3) Drag ALL ITEMS into the "Mansion BBS ƒ" folder.
-
- 4) The following is a Pathname:
-
- HD 60:Mansion BBS ƒ:Mansion Data:MPrefs:
-
- Explanation: This line tells Mansion the following, on the hard drive named
- "HD 60" in the folder named "Mansion BBS ƒ" in the folder named "Mansion Data"
- in the folder named "MPrefs". Files in the folder "MPrefs" are what Mansion is
- looking for. This will become more clear as you work with the Mansion BBS
- system.
-
- 5) The first part "HD 60:" is dependent on your specific system, and needs to
- be changed in several areas for Mansion for work properly.
-
- I.E. If your Hard Drive was named 'HD 210' the same pathname would read:
-
- HD 210:Mansion BBS ƒ:Mansion Data:MPrefs:
-
- OR
-
- If your Hard Drive was named 'HD 210' and you had placed the
- 'Mansion BBS ƒ' in a folder called 'MY Stuff', the same pathname would read:
-
- HD 210:MY Stuff:Mansion BBS ƒ:Mansion Data:MPrefs:
-
- 6) Using a simple editor (I.E. McSink, Vantage, Qued, etc.) change the
- following pathnames to match your system setup:
-
-
- Inside the "Mansion BBS ƒ" folder the following files have pathnames that Need
- to be changed:
-
- Defaults
-
- Inside the "Mansion Data" folder the following files have pathnames that Need
- to be changed:
-
- Data Header
- Lib Header
- Mansion Scan
-
- Inside the "MPrefs" folder the following files have pathnames that Need to be
- changed:
-
- Pathways
-
- Inside the "Scripts" folder the following files have pathnames that Need to be
- changed:
-
- BBS Script
- BusinessCard Script
- LIBRARY SCRIPT
- Logon
- QUOTE SCRIPT
- U/D Script <--This file not used in current setup, Included as
- example only!
- Visitor
- WelcomeMsg Script
-
- Each of these files may contain SEVERAL occurrences of the pathname, make sure
- you change them all!
-
- 7) Run the "Mansion Editor" application.
-
- 8) Under the "Environment" menu select "Modem...". A dialog will be displayed
- showing modem settings etc. If the current settings do not match your set up,
- there are additional modem setups in the "Modem Drivers" folder, located in the
- "MPrefs" folder within the "Mansion Data" folder.
-
- When all settings match your modem and setup click OK.
-
- 9) Under the "File" menu there are several selections for your BBS name,
- time allowed online, calls per day, etc. These DO NOT have to be changed now,
- but if you wish may do so.
-
- 10) Install the "Mansion SNDs" in your System. These are sounds that alert
- you to happenings in Mansion.
-
- End of installation. Double click on Mansion and have fun!
